Hello Everyone, as you may be aware, most of the disaster recovery work areas will be under a heat advisory for the coming week or two. Take time to review CDC's "Seven Safety Suggestions for Summer Work" found at: http://www.cdc.gov/Features/WorkingOutdoors/ before working on any disaster recovery project to ensure that you and your team remain safe. |

As the TN Conference prepares to remember the 1 year anniversary of the May/August 2010 flooding that left over 41,000 households; over 3,000 families needing long term recovery assistance; and caused over $2.5M worth of damage in Middle TN we continue to experience severe weather. According
to the National Weather Service, 600 tornadoes were recorded in the United
States in the month of April alone. Today, communities along the Mississippi
River are bracing themselves for flooding from rainwater and snow-melt levels that
haven’t been seen since 1927. As a result of the Spring 2011 storms families are still recovering. Much work is tree removal, debris removal and roof repair. In West TN (Memphis) as a result of the Mississippi River flooding many counties remain under water. In weeks to come we will see the need for muck out and clean up very similar to what Middle TN (Nashville) experienced one year ago. Ongoing recovery work will remain in Middle TN as we assist our neighbors as needed to the West. We continue to be grateful to all volunteers that make their way here to TN to assist in the ongoing efforts of flood recovery. And we keep the displaced families and businesses effected by these disasters close in prayer. Here is a link to view some of the flooding happening in the Mid South - Memphis area. http://www.commercialappeal.com/flood/

There has been significant flooding in West TN. Flooding expected to rise in areas in and around Memphis, TN. Here in Middle TN (Nashville area) we continue to do recovery work from the May and August 2010 floods with additional counties in Middle TN being flooded and affected by tornadoes this past month (April 2011). We are working with the Memphis Conference to help assist their flood recovery efforts. However, we continue to utilize all volunteer teams coming to Middle TN in responding to immediate needs of flood survivors in our area. We continue to thank the many volunteer teams that have come to TN and those scheduled to arrive this summer/fall. Your time, efforts, and skills are much needed and appreciated.
If you can click on our latest weather channel link here it may show the severe weather map for Friday, May 6th: Nashville, TN is to the right of the major green areas. Memphis, TN is where the green areas are showing. |

All over Middle TN tornados touched down ripping trees and downing power lines on Monday. Some High Schools closed as a result of roof damage and businesses, farms and apartments trying to recover as they clear debris from all the damage high winds and tornados caused. See images for sample of tree damage. |
